AESA is an acronym for Active Electronically Scanned Array, and refers to a flat panel antenna where a phase-controlled array of amplifying semiconductor based antenna elements generates the antenna lobe or lobes. For certain applications where the antenna and/or the satellite are non-stationary, the AESA antennas can be advantageous compared to mechanically actuated tracking antennas. Description The SMW AESA Ka-Band Upconverter system consists of two modules, the main RF BUC module, which upconverts the IF block, and the Filter & Medium Power Amplifier module that provides the selected band filtering and power amplification to the signal going to the active antenna array. Both units include Monitoring and Control (M&C) for a multitude of internal electrical and environmental parameters, Control over RF gain and LO frequencies, filter selection etc.

Separate product sheet for the two modules as well as the SMW M&C are available.

• Unique 4-band switchable design covers the full Ka transmit band 27.00 to 31.00 GHz

• Compact design ideal for integration in flat panel randomes

• Daisy-chainable M&C interface provides full access to control and monitor key parameters

• Controlled start-up/shut down safety sequence to secure unintended transmission

• Selectable IF bandwidth provides for ultimate performance and flexible integration

• Designed to meet MiL STD 188-164C Ka-band transmit requirements

• Fully filtered output provides -60dBc in/out of band spurious & NSD filtered out of band
